Make a Colorful Clay Floral Wreath

Brighten your day with this colorful clay floral decoration from Martha Stewart and artist Yukiko Miyai, author of Clay Art for All Seasons and Clay Art for All Seasons .   In this tutorial Yukiko creates the flowers using Martha Stewart's new silicone molds included in one of the two Crafter's Clay Starter Kits and a wreath base made from a circular rope of clay.

Floral wreath how-to:   First, use the flower molds to create enough flowers to cover the wreath.  The number of flowers needed depends of size of wreath desired.   Mix your flower colors by adding a small amount of a primary color to a larger amount of white. To make a two-tone flower, choose two colors of clay and press a small ball of the first color into center of desired mold.   Fill in rest of mold with other color, smoothing as you go and trimming any excess clay.   Carefully remove completed flower from mold and set aside to dry.

Next day, create wreath base and attach flowers to base using craft glue.   Arrange as desired using example shown  in this video.   You can also embellish wreath with butterflies or birds created with additional molds.  Use 20-guage wire (and glue) to affix a butterfly or bird to wreath.  Let everything dry completely for at least 24 hours before hanging.   If you can set wreath on a wire rack it will allow more air circulation and even drying.

Remember! Air-dry clay and gumpaste techniques are almost the same
and tutorials can work for both!
